EU Commission: Waiting Electoral College’s argumentation

The European Commission is waiting the official arguments of the
Electoral College before giving an opinion on the final result of the
May 8th Local Elections.

“We have followed the latest developments in Albania, since the Election Day of May 8th, with great concern and attention. We have noted the decision of the Electoral College and are waiting for a wider argumentation, because we have heard only the decision so far. Only then will we make public our stance. You know very well what we expect from Albania. We wish to see a mature political dialogue and progress in reforms, but before making clear our stance, we must see all the details”, said Spokesperson for Catherine Ashton, Maja Kocijancic.

Fulfilling international standards in these elections was one of the 12 recommendations set by the European Commission for Albania, the achievement of which will be assessed at the progress-report that will be released this October.
