Ermal Meta on Top Channel’s “Wake Up”: “I didn’t expect to win Sanremo”

Meta said every song he writes looks the best one to him, but he didn’t expect to win the Italian festival.

“Fabrizio contacted me this June. I have always liked him as an artist so I accepted immediately. After the attack at the Ariana Grande concert, fans were scared to come at our concerts, but if you let yourself in the hands of fear… that’s why we decided to participate with this song”, Meta explained.

As for the suspension of the song, Ermal Meta said they were sad, but they knew they were on the right. “We had already declared that the chorus came from another song, written by us as well. Some journalists didn’t know it or maybe they didn’t want to know. They said something inaccurate. The song had the same chorus, but it was our chorus”, Meta said.

He concluded by saying that he has never hidden the fact that he is Albanian, and that everyone represents himself wherever he goes.
