Energy reform failed to give results, Word Bank: “Losses not reduced”

The World Bank says that the energy reform did not reach its objective for reducing losses. They advise the government to review the plan for reviving the energy sector.

“The capital spending program of the energy distribution company (OSHEE) has not given results with losses, now reaching 28% losses, from 26% and 22% that it was in 2016 and 2017 respectively”, the World Bank states.

OSHEE has invested 150 million EUR in the distribution network for the past three years, all paid by citizens, but without any effect in reducing losses.

The World Bank says that the loss level has not changed since when the program started and the company went under state control.

The Bank notes that there has been progress in some parts, but the financial situation deteriorated in 2017 due to high imports. In these conditions, the World Bank advises the government and other law enforcing agencies to review the plan for the financial revival of the energy sector, for which the Bank is ready to contribute.
