Election result postponed for Tirana

In the meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC), the Socialist
Party representative raised the concern that the summary protocol for
the Municipal Unit no.5 has not been signed by the Zonal Election
Commission (ZEC), where the Democratic Party has the majority of
commissioners.

“I asked CEC to order ZEC to return on duty. I also demanded the dismissal of the majority representatives in this commission”, declared Genc Gjoncaj.

According to Gjoncaj, two official letters were addressed to CEC by the Socialist members of this ZEC, asking the resolution of the problem. This caused debates in the room.

“As for this matter, we have scrutinized the complaints and our inspectors have visited ZEC”, Arben Ristani intervened.

“The law and the Election Code must be implemented for all Tirana ZECs, not only for ZEC 49”, said after him the Democratic Party commissioner Njazi Kosovrasti.

According to CEC vice chair, Dëshira Subashi, the law provides that the counting process for the Municipality Unit winner cannot start without closing the process for the Mayor.

“Our inspectors must deal with this matter first, instead of saying that they have another matter in their hands. They should be there to inspect how CEC decisions are being implemented”, Subashi declared.

In these conditions, the Commission postponed the discussing session for Tirana’s Mayor.

“I still need time, because I have other information. I will bring it when I will be ready”, Ristani declared.

“I demanded this postponement, because it is your legal obligation to wait for 24 hours”, said the commissioner Kosovrasti.

CEC is the institution that gives the mandate to the new Mayor. The Election Commission will scrutinize this afternoon the act that advises the administration on calculating the results of all Tirana’s ZECs.
