The number of road accident victims is still dramatic during summer,
although this year there have been fewer deaths compared to the last years. The
director of the Road Traffic, Vullnet Topalli explained the reasons why
there are so many accidents during summer, compared to the other months
of the year.
“Drivers are more distracted during summer, but there is also a bigger traffic. Only in the last two months, June and July, 60.000 vehicles were added to the Albanian roads, more than 100.000 people”, Topalli declared.
Mr. Topalli also said that another cause of the accidents are the Albanian emigrants that return to their country during summer, who are used to drive in other conditions in the countries where they have emigrated.
Based on the Police official statistics, between June and August 2010 there have been 456 car accidents, resulting with 120 deaths. During June and August 2011 there have been 497 crashes with 73 deaths.
