The Cabinet of the Commission for Enlargement distributed the
conclusions of Commissioner Stefan Fule right after the end of his
speech in the inter-parliamentary meeting.

“Unfortunately, a difficult situation was created as result of the problems that appeared with the table of results for Tirana mayoral race”, Fule declared.

Arguing his stance through four points, the Commissioner declared that despite different interpretations, the OSCE-ODIHR report clarifies that on May 20th there have been legal uncertainties about the way miscast ballots were treated.

Stefan Fule declared that the General Secretary of Council of Europe expressed his concern to Prime Minister Berisha through a public letter, underlining the gravity of political division in such a level that threatens the functioning of democratic institutions, threatens good governing and economic progress.

Commissioner Fule stressed out again his appeal for asking the assistance of the Commission of Venice, a practice also used by other countries, for the next elections.

The Commissioner appealed the Albanian parties to finalize the electoral process with calm and to avoid confronting rhetoric.

Fule declared that an election reform is clearly needed, and this can be achieved if the Albanian politicians, as representatives of the Albanian people, will find the way of dialogue for taking decisions that are for the citizens’ interest.
