Basha, public debate about Tirana

The Democratic Party candidate for Tirana Mayor, Lulëzim Basha, is trying to invite his adversary, Edi Rama, to a public debate about the Albanian capital city.

Different to other former democratic candidates, Basha has recognized some merits of Rama’s work, but he demands confrontation.

This forum is organized by a private university to discuss Tirana’s problems. It consists of well-known intellectuals, three of whom are on the Democratic Party’s candidate list for the Tirana Municipality Council, also directors and leaders of many important state institutions and civil society activists.

“The war for the truth and the public interest is irreplaceable! This is why today’s debate is irreplaceable for any candidate. I am convinced that it is the same for Mr. Rama, even though he is not here today. But I am sure that he will follow this. I know that our politic reality has divided the public debate into war trenches. I have high consideration for the discussions held here, and I hope to have your understanding for not being the one to answer you today. But I look forward to the next invitation in order to get engaged on a public debate for the ideas you have proposed. I guarantee that my engagement will only be to contribute, to start paving the road of a new Tirana, which goes in line with a long-term developing plan and not with a ‘plan-less’ plan. Because even the ‘plan-less’ plan is a plan, but is a plan that doesn’t serve to this constituency, doesn’t serve to the Tirana citizens. It serves to a narrow bunch of people”, Basha declared.

Until now, only Socialist deputies have replicated from a distance with the Democratic Candidate Basha. While Mayor Edi Rama, on the political level as opposition leader, has directly stigmatized Prime Minister Berisha.

Tirana’s Mayor Edi Rama was invited in the next forum meeting, which will publish at the end a brochure with the suggested ideas.
