Prime Minister Sali Berisha and Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli, accompanied by many Shkodra citizens, commemorated the martyrs that were killed in Shkodra 20 years ago, on April 2nd, when the country was experiencing the first democratic changes.

After placing flowers on the April 2nd memorial in Shkodra, Prime Minister Berisha paid homage to the four anticommunist martyrs, Arben Broci, Besnik Ceka, Bujar Bishanaku and Nazmi Kryeziu, praising their sacrifice to transform Albania into a democratic country, today a NATO member, with its citizens traveling without visas in Europe and, according to Prime Minister Berisha, a country that respects the free vote of the people.
This ceremony on the 20th anniversary of the democracy martyrs was an occasion for Prime Minister Berisha and Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli to concentrate on the May 8th elections and their alternative for the citizens.

“I guarantee that everything on these elections and campaign will be only for you. Altogether we will draw the plans for Shkodra and Albania, since we have proved that we keep our promises”, Berisha said.

“No one could imagine that today, after 20 years, the Socialist Party would ally with the Party of Labor. This city has always voted against the Party of Labor, against the culture of violence. I invite all Albanians to join our citizen’s alternative on May 8th,” Topalli declared.
On the 20th anniversary of the Shkodra anticommunist demonstration, President Bamir Topi published a message that honors the four democracy martyrs and all Shkodra citizens for their anticommunist resistance.
President Topi’s message says that 20 years after that demonstration, the road that will build the democracy in Albania is still full of big challenges, and that everybody’s efforts must be united to solidify democracy, as a way of guaranteeing that we are walking towards the big Euro -Atlantic family.
