Albanians do not spend on health

All Albanians must pay health insurances in order to benefit free services and to bring improvements to the hospitals.

According to Health Minister Petrit Vasili, only 20% of the total budget comes from insurances. Only 3.4% of the wage is used for these insurances, while other countries pay about 10%. A big part of the Albanian citizens work in undeclared jobs and neglect health contributions.

“All people have the obligation to pay health insurances, as the law provides. They are obliged to pay these contributions also in the months to come, and as the same law provides, no one can ever evade this”, Vasili declared.

Statistics show that the Albanians spend more in phone calls than for their health. As for the reform, Vasili declared that the investments are being concentrated in technology and quick diagnosing.

“Our biggest investments are concentrated on the reforms, in order to have more professional and quicker diagnosing. Investments in medical technology have halved the time for reaching an accurate diagnose”, Vasili declared.

One of main links of this reform, according to Vasili, is the constant education of new doctors. The Health Ministers say that our doctors are training for the first time even in USA.

Although health is one of main priorities of this government, only 2.9% of the GDP is used for their funds.
