Balkan citizens remain more devoted to religion than those from Central and Western Europe.

A poll published by Daily Telegraph shows that religion is a powerful factor in the minds of the people in the region, in all former communist countries except for Bulgaria and Albania.

Kosovo, Macedonia and Romania are the most religious societies in Balkan and Europe, with 77% of their population devoted to religion, followed by Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro and Greece, with 70% to 72%, and finally by Bosnia with 65%.

Albania remains the only country in Balkan with a Western approach to religion, with only 39% of the residents considering themselves devotees, the same percentage with Austria, Hungary and just a little higher than Spain.

In Western Europe, Italy, the centre of the Catholic Church, remains the only country where a majority of the population, 74%, sees themselves as devotees. The numbers are very low in Britain, Netherlands and Germany, while Northern Europe seems less oriented towards religion.
