The US State Department on Wednesday released its annual report on the state of religious freedom in the world, which included data on the state of religious freedom in 200 countries and territories.

Welcoming the report and his findings, the President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, requested action by the government for the concerns it identified.

“I welcome the realistic report of DASH on the freedoms of faith 2019 for Albania, and I appreciate with great importance of interfaith harmony and coexistence in our country. I appreciate the concern of returning to religious communities the confiscated property during the communist regime, and the difficulties in obtaining permits from some local authorities for the construction of religious institutions.

“I urge that all concerns raised in report, especially regarding the lost property and bureaucratic obstacles, be prioritized by the responsible state authorities and that legal solutions be taken without further delay. This process would strengthen the independence of religious communities and keep them away from foreign influences aimed at undermining interfaith harmony and coexistence. It takes an energetic and sincere response to finally resolve the issue of religious community property, ending bureaucratic and corrupt practices”, stated Meta among other things.
