Power interconnection with Macedonia, Albanian government pledges loan

The Albanian government will pledge the loan that the
Transmission System Operator will take from the German KFW, to build the
400 kilovolt power line between Albania and Macedonia.

50 million EUR will be used for building the Fier-Elbasan-Qafe Thana segment, which will be paid by the TSO. If their financial abilities are exhausted, the government will cover payments. TSO will then owe it to the government.

This line would completely integrate Albania with the other lines of the region, creating the right conditions to start commercial energy trading and unlimited energy transition.

The investment will also improve the system in Southern Albania, where future energy sources are foreseen as part of the Eight European Corridor infrastructure, which creates possibilities for an undersea power connection to Italy.
