Izet Haxhia’s retrial delayed

The reopening of the trial for Izet Haxhia, who was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of the former Democratic Party MP, Azem Hajdari, is turning into mission impossible.

The first session at the Court of Appeals has failed, and there is no date for the next one. This is maybe the first time in the history of the Court of Appeal that judges don’t’ want to take a case.

At first it was the judges who said that being colleagues of the Hajdari’s wife, who is a judge in this institution, they couldn’t continue the trial. Their request was rejected, but then it was Izet Haxhia and his lawyer demanded the judges to be changed.

A new panel will be expected for Hahxhia’s request for retrial. Until then, the situation remains uncertain.
