Albania has the highest level of damage done to forests in the past 20 years.

The Minister of Environment, Lefter Koka, did not deny the denouncements made one week ago against the massacres that are going on throughout the country from private subjects that have received permission to cut trees, two months ago. He reiterated that the Ministry has only one inspector for 15.000 hectares of forests.

The Environment Minister accused the mining companies and individual consumers as the biggest problem to forests in years. Koka said the solution is only a moratorium for the next 10 years and removing VAT for imported lumber, to stimulate foreign lumber and preserve our trees.
