Durrës cleaning begins, urban waste is sent to the Sharra landfill

After almost a week of urban waste cleaning stoppage, the city of Durrës has started to breathe after the removal of waste from the roads and sidewalks and their storage in the Sharra landfill.
The situation remains still critical, so the Municipality and the Municipal Council of Durrës are expected to declare of environmental emergency in the territory due to the situation.
After a preliminary approval by the Ministry of Finance for a fund dedicated to urban waste until December this year, the municipal municipal enterprise began cleaning the city and sending the waste to the Sharra landfill.
In July 2018, the Durrës Municipal Council declared its first environmental emergency due to the similar situation with the urban waste at disposal sites in Porto Romano, Vadardhë and Manëz, while the government asked the then mayor to start talks on concluding a contract with the concessionaire company of the Sharra incinerator.
