Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, held a meeting this Monday with
hospital leaders. Rama was very critical and called them responsible for
today’s situation in hospital.

“Our hospitals are not giving what is needed for cleanness and hygiene. Who is responsible for this? It is you, hospital directors. You don’t need a high budget, reforms or major plans to achieve proper hygiene in hospitals. You need eyes and hands”, Rama said.

Rama admitted the situation in Albania’s public hospitals is due to a very bad heritage, but directors are responsible for the fact that the situation is ongoing.

“It is an inherited wound, but our personnel should not lack of the readiness to answer in time and with good quality to patients, We are 270 years behind, and you are responsible for this. The leading staff has the responsibility to manage human resources and take right decisions on time, for answering properly to citizens’ need, and to answer with good ethics and dignity”, Rama added.

The Prime Minister said that the start of a solution for this situation comes by having hospital leaders resign. “We cannot have a hospital autonomy if we don’t have good hospital management. Hospitals are an enterprise, after all. Not stables where some cows are checked by vets, and some not. This is why I hope you understand my request for you to resign”, Rama said.

The Prime Minister warned that there will be public competitions to chose the future managers of hospitals. According to him, they will be trusted to competent people, not to parties.
