Gabriel Escobar takes new role, will no longer be the US envoy for the Western Balkans

The announcement was made by the State Department for the Kosova media. In a statement, the State Department confirms that Gabriel Escobar is about to be transferred to a new role.

The change comes in framework of the rotation that foreign service officers have as a rule of their duty and that happens procedurally in 1 or 4 years of their service in a task, State Department says in the statement.

But it comes also after rumours in the Kosova press that Escobar had been fired from his role, because his wife’s foundation had received donations indirectly from the Serbian Foreign Ministry, thus presenting a conflict of interest.

The US State Department called these news deliberate fabrications.
