Albania now owns satellite software that shows the areas which are mostly exposed to fires.

The constantly updated map that shows high risk areas was given to the Albanian authorities in order to take preventive measures against forest fires.

This program of Civil Emergencies, given as an aid from their Italian homologues, will be enriched after July 8th with software that adds the possibilities for predicting earthquakes and landslides.

According to the head of Civil Emergencies, Alfred Olli, this minimizes the risks of forest fires to ten times, and helps the authorities to intervene faster.

“It is a satellite project that will be ready. It aims to reduce damages to forests. Instead of 10 unpredicted fires, with this equipment we will have only one. The second phase of the software helps predicting earthquakes and massive landslides”, Olli declared.

According to respective agencies that transmit their information to the Civil Emergency, this summer will have very high temperatures, but divided with heavy rains, which means that there are possibilities of fires.

“Temperatures will rise during July and August, but there will be also rains, which decreases the possibility of massive fires”, Olli explained.
