President, circle expands

The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, met the leader of the United
for Human Rights Party, Vangjel Dule, for finding an agreement for the
consensual president.

But there are still divisions, since Dule keeps seeing Fatos Nano as the most consensual candidate, for whom Berisha declare that he cannot run from the Democratic Party.

“For the UHRP, it is more important to have a president that comes from the political parties. Nano’s candidacy is becoming even more acceptable by the parties and chances are that there he will find the consensus of all political parties”, Dule declared.

“Mr. Dule lobbies for Mr. Nano and I have no information about Nano’s results, but we have expressed our stance”, Berisha declared.

Beyond Fatos Nano’s name, the process for the presidential election is moving even now. The newest thing here is that the parties are looking for the consensual candidate in two other fields.

“By what we have agreed with the Socialist Movement for Integration, the names could derive from politics, justice and diplomacy areas. These are the three areas from which most of the European presidents have come from”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister considered as positive the fact that the SP doesn’t consider the electoral and parliamentary reform as a condition, together with the immunity limitation. With this reasoning, it’s not that they definitively exclude a meeting for the president with all party leaders, but there is a reason that he doesn’t support the meeting without deciding it first through official communications.

“A meeting with all parties present wouldn’t be very noble, because giving and taking many names, the process would go out of the noble lines. Let us find a communication way with the opposition and turn this into a decent understanding process”, Berisha declared.

Will Rama and Berisha sit for the next President?

“We have realized major things with Rama without meeting. The Albanian Constitution is not the same. We have reached important achievements without meeting at all. It is important to find a common name for a consensual president”, Berisha declared.

So far, there is no name for the presidential candidate yet, but the Prime Minister believes that even if he will not be found until Wednesday, on the first voting round, this will be a negative signal, since there are efforts for a consensual president.
