The company which won the concession to manage state-owned hospital labs for the next 10 years will invest only 9.9 million EUR.

The 90 million EUR difference for the next 10 years will be used for operational costs and company’s profits.

The Albanian Health Minister, Ogerta Manastirliu, said that the company will invest 7 million EUR for infrastructure and equipment, and another 2.9 million EUR on the seventh year of concession”.

The 10-year-long concession was given to a consortium made of three companies, the Albanian “Labopharma”, the Dutch “AB Laboratory Solutions” and the French “Exalab”.

The two other companies, which have 75% of the concession shares, are owned by the same owner, Albanian businessman Janis Karathano.

“The two concessions will improve the lab service in our country”, Manastirliu declared.

For the next year, the government will pay 30 million EUR on four health concessions: dialysis, check-up, sterilizing and lab contracts. This will be 10 million higher than the entire health budget for public investments.
