The mobile phone users will have more possibilities avaible in the 3G
technology, which is currently being offered by two carriers, from four
that the Albanian market has in total.
The Minister of Technology and Innovation, Genc Pollo, confirmed the next procedure that will be held in the first month of 2012.
“With the atmosphere of the upcoming holidays, we give the good news that the procedure for the third 3G license will start very soon, and this will increase the qualitative usage of fast internet on cell phones, and the prices will decrease to the point that it will be available to anyone”.
The Ministry of Technology predicts that the tender will be held these days, while the license will be given on February. The first 3G license was given on December 2010 to “Vodafone”, for 31.4 million EUR, the second was given to AMC on October 2011 for 15.1 million EUR.
The 3G service will offer faster access in internet and video calls. The phone carriers have been asking a liberalization of the market, as the only way to have an open competition in service of the consumers.
The conditions of the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union oblige the country to open the market and not create monopolies. The urgent need for money made the government give the licenses through euros, profiting millions.
