EU: “2025, a realistic perspective for Balkan”

“This is our message today, that we are going to share our future in the EU”, said the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, in the presentation of the enlargement strategy for Western Balkan.

“Western Balkan countries are part of Europe, geographically, but they also share the same history, cultural heritage, challenges and interests with other EU countries. Our message today is that we are going to share our future in the EU. Albania and Montenegro are 100% in line with the EU foreign policy, and they are a model for this. Not problems that we need to avoid, but chances that we can explore maximally only if we are together. This strategy is giving a clear perspective for the integration of six partners. It is clear that specific reforms are needed before citizens can enjoy the same rights as EU citizens. We have seen many reforms in the region, characterized by a strong determination coming from Balkan leaders, each with their pace, but with a clear orientation. We tell them today that we are doing the same choice”, Mogherini declared.

Mogherini added that 2025 is not only a target for accession but a realistic perspective.
