Elisabeta Majko lives at Gjirokastra’s historic area. For the first time she is using a cloth bag for her shopping. She said that her family used to collect 10 plastic bags a day with their purchases. This choice seems much more practical to her.

200 children of the Andon Zako Cajupi school started an initiative to distribute 1000 cloth bags. Brenna Moran, volunteer at the Peace Corpus of Gjirokastra, said that they started it after seeing how pollution was so concerning in a town where tourism is constantly growing.

The Public Service Agency in Gjirokaster has five vehicles for transporting waste, but they need at least nine.
