Decriminalization, CEC summons two MPs and one Mayor in hearing session

The Central Election Commission summoned MPs Shkelqim Selami and
Dashamir Tahiri for a hearing session, together with the Mayor of
Kavaja, Elvis Rroshi. The Prosecution General asked the Court to remove
their mandates as part of the decriminalization law.

They are accused of hiding former convictions abroad. The three persons, all elected by the people, will be invited to confront their arguments with the PG verifications.

The Prosecution General said that MP Dashamir Tahiri has been reported by the Foggia police for using forfeit currency, and in 2009 he was sentenced by the Ravena Court with nine months in prison for using a forged Albanian driving license. Tahiri’s explanation was that he was not aware about the sentence.

The MP of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Shkelqim Selami, has failed to declare a prison sentence given to him by the Brindisi Court, accusing him of being part of a criminal organization that trafficked human beings across the sea. He has tayed for one week in a Brindisi prison and was then released.

Mayor Elvis Rroshi is accused of gang rape in 1995, for using false names in Switzerland, which he has not declared, and for being arrested for drug traffic. In 2015, the DEA informed Swiss authorities that they were investigating a citizen named Enver Rroshi for drug traffic and money laundering.

CEC will decide this Tuesday, while the Commission has to establish a procedure for how they will operate in the future with these cases, which is not clear with the decriminalization law.
