Toptani wants SHQUP back

Despite the fact that SHQUP’s building is legalized as the new building of the Democratic Party and its flag flies in its courtyard, alongside NATO and the EU , Eduard Toptani , one of the two owners of the land where this building is set up , continues to seek his property.

“I came to Albania to tell the Albanian Government that this building is known as inherited by my family. I have had the opportunity to speak with many people from the government and I was told that they recognize this building as my property, but do not intend to make any move to return it to us. I’m extremely disappointed, because both political parties have encouraged continuing my efforts to restore this property. But on the other hand, they’ve told me that they do not have the political will to declare publicly that this property should be returned. I’m experiencing the same situation that many owners face these last 20 years. What is happening here with the Government’s decision is the continuation of Enver Hoxha’s politics many years ago. Today we are in 2013 not in 1947 “ , says Toptani.
Mr. Toptani who urgently came from New York a week ago for this issue stated in this interview for Top Channel that he will address the court.

“I am currently exploring all options including legal ones here in Albania. I have also included my counsellors in the United States of America to open a dialogue with the U.S. authorities in order to see all the possibilities of pressure on the government to restore the property,”adds Toptani.
But are there possibilities of involvement of U.S. authorities in this matter?

“Yes, there are these opportunities. It would be premature to talk about them. As you know, ambassador Arvizu made his commentary on this issue. I’m continuing the dialogue with U.S. authorities but do not want to give details about these conversations, as they are confidential and this communication will continue,” said Toptani .

A few days ago, ambassador Arvizu, asked about this question, stated that “whenever there is a problem with a U.S. citizen, as in this case, it is a concern for us. We are following this case,” – added the American.
