SP, no new names at CEC

“The Socialist Party is not ready to propose new members at the Central
Election Commission, because we are not ready to make a mere replacement
of people. If the  Democratic Party has chosen to treat Central
Election Commission as a section of the Democratic Party, let them keep
it that way. We will not be part of this farce, but we will prepare for
the elections as nothing has happened”.

“This is the position held by the opposition, as it was clearly stated by the Secretary for Electoral Issues at the Socialist Party, Damian Gjiknuri. Central Election Commission is now in a crisis, functioning only with four members from the ruling party.

As for the legal deadlines that the Socialist Party had to replace its members at the Central Election Commission, Gjiknuri says that for the opposition there are only two options: “Returning the previous situation and undo the Parliament act, or let’s sit and find a stable solution through dialogue”, Gjiknuri declared.

While the parties show no sings of resignation, has the international community started a negotiation process for resolving the situation, as some voices are insinuating?

“I cannot confirm or deny this”, Gjiknuri declared.

“Regardless the negotiations, the Socialist Party is ready to continue the elections even with four members at the Central Election Commission, and the Democratic Party will be held responsible for this”, declared the Secretary for Elections at the Socialist Party.

For the Socialist Party, the firing of Ilirian Muho is a clear message that Central Election Commission is being controlled, and that there is no balance.

“They should forget touching the Central Election Commission. The Commissions should do their job. The Democratic Party can keep their Central Election Commission, as they have elected it, and we will be ready for any scenario”, Gjiknuri declared.
