Gender equality and the participation of women in the public life was
the focus of a conference organized by the Socialist Party at the city
of Shkoder, part of the introduction of the Albanian Revival program.
The Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, appealed to open a new path to the gender equality policies, which will increase the role and participation of women in active politics not only in Parliament but also in the local government, including the public administration. Rama promised a concrete commitment to turn this to reality:
“We are convinced that this is time to take a concrete commitment, 50% of the councillors in municipalities and communes will be women. Experience has shown that it works very well employing women in the public service, without discrimination. Let’s increase the number of women in the representation of the people, in the public administration, and let’s encourage the participation of women and girls in the enterprise. Let’s build a special policy to fight the female unemployment. It will be one of the main objectives after the June 23rd elections”, Rama declared.
Rama mentioned another important point of the Socialist Party program, which foresees more benefits for every woman during her pregnancy, even when not employed.
“Every Albanian mother should profit support during pregnancies, even when they are unemployed, because for us, the children who are still to be born have equal rights to anyone else, according to the Albanian Constitution”, declared the Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama.
Rama also committed to reduce the unemployment of women, as a priority for the new government after the June 23rd elections, including the ending of organized celebrations and political meetings by using people who are employed by the public administration.
