For 40.000 children, this is the first day of their life at school. The
joy, the emotions and flowers for teachers could be seen everywhere.
“I like school and I have been preparing since summer for this. Here you can find new friends”, a young student says.
Lesson has started also for high school, and 70% of them will have to work in shifts. The Sami Frasheri school was among the most favourite for this season.
“We have 1600 students and 16 first year classes, 14 second year, and 15 last year classes. It is impossible to teach with one shift”, says Julinda Bllaca, Director of the Sami Frasheri school.
The Minister of Education, Lindita Nikolla, and the Minister of culture, Mirela Kumbaro, congratulated the children for the new year at the Jorndan Misja lyceum.
“We will do everything possible and will realize our promises for every students that live far from their schools. We will guarantee free transport and specific policies that will help families of low income, especially for the Roma community. We have a special program for children with special needs”, declared Minister Nikolla.
The Minister promised to resolve every problem in education.
The Mayor of Tirana, Lulzim Basha, congratulated the students from the Sami Frasheri high school, where he guaranteed the improvement of the infrastructure.
“I wish to all students and their parents in the Albanian capital and throughout our country a good new academic year. The Tirana Municipality even this time has taken measures to take another step of quality in the educational infrastructure”, Basha declared.
There are 600.000 students in the pre-university system who have started the new academic year.
New academic year in Gjirokaster starts with problems
7500 students of the secondary 9-year-level have started the first day of school in Gjirokaster. The number of students has increased this year, due to the children that have arrived from emigration. But compared to one year ago, there are less newcomers.
The Regional Education Directory has been obliged to close some schools due to the low number of students. However, thanks to the families moving in the city, the number of children going on the first year of school has increased with 10%.
Schools in the main cities of the district, including Gjirokaster, announce for several problems, such as the lack of maintenance services. Many schools started this year without painted walls and several problems related to humidity and the lack of electricity installations or running water.
Two schools closed in Skrapar
164 schools in Berat have opened their doors for the children, with 1266 of them going to school for the first day of their lives. The teaching process has started normally, except for two schools in Skrapar which are not open due to the lack of buildings.
A school in Berat and another in Velabisht welcomed students in very new conditions and were inaugurated on the first day of school. Berat police says that they are applying a detailed plan of measures for guaranteeing order and public safety for 2013 and 2014.
In Berat there are 60 secondary and high schools. In the Leshnje commune, the Kapinova an d Bersaka village, teaching did not start because schools are on properties that have returned to former owners.
