Request for Rama as PM sent

After the first formal meeting of the new Albanian Parliament, the
President has received the request of the left coalition, winner of the
June 23rd elections, to appoint Edi Rama as Albania’s Prime Minister.

The request was announced on the official website of the President, saying: “Based on article 96.1 of the Albanian Constitution, the Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama; the Socialist Movement for Integration leader, Ilir Meta; and the United for Human Rights Party leader, Vangjel Dule, have addressed a request to President Bujar Nishani to appoint Mr.Edi Rama as the Prime Minister of Albania.

After the appointment from the President, Rama and the next government will be voted in Parliament. The request of the Alliance for European Albania which received 83 mandates in the June 23rd elections was sent to the presidency after Sali Berisha resigned from the duty of the Albanian Prime Minister this Monday.
