Protection from the HCJ

Now that judges are not protected by immunity, they propose creating a
specialized unit that could defend their interests in case of unjust
disciplinary procedures from the High Council of Justice.

The idea was mentioned during the annual Assembly of the Judge Union in Albania, where they discussed about the Union’s failure to react to the attacks made against judges.

“One of the most honored members of the Supreme Court, Mr.Dvorani, has abandoned the board’s meeting for not finding the protection he needed. And this goes not only for the Supreme Court member, but for everyone else. Another case where the Albanian Union of Judges didn’t react was when the Tirana Judges have been denigrated by politics for ordinary cases. We thought that the things within the Union would get better, but if we can’t fix things within ourselves today… I appeal the rest of the Union members who were not present today to come and react”, declared the head of the Union of Judges Board of Directors, Gerd Hoxha.

The head of the Union, Ervin Metalla, declared that these conflicts are a clear indicator of democracy.

“This might seem of a political nature, imported in an association of judges. If an individual fails to agree with the stances of the association, than that’s what democracy is”, Metalla declared.

The President of the Supreme Court, Xhezair Zaganjori, also asked a stronger reaction within the community of judges.
