Rexhep Rama suffers larynx tumor. Doctors told him to undergo radiation
therapy, but the equipment was out of order and his treatment was
interrupted.

Claiming that the state violated his equal treatment rights, the 60-year-old asked the Prosecution to investigate, since his vocal cords had now been damaged.

But Rexhep Rama lost this case because the fact was not seen as a criminal act. The patient declared that he will insist at the Court of Appeal as soon as the verdict will be explained by the First Instance Court.

“I come here and the explanatory arguments have not been published yet, although the verdict has been taken. I waiting for it to send this case to the Court of Appeal. I will ask for support from the embassies. I will ask for the documents to be verified so that all other similar cases can be inspected”, Rexhep Rama declared.

He added that after the equipment was damaged, he was unable to get treatment in a private hospital. The Prosecution says that the Tirana Hospital has no agreement with private hospitals in case of malfunctions.

“This is an intentional damage. The treatment was interrupted and then it started again, but it couldn’t give anymore results. The treatment at private hospitals was very expensive and I could not afford them. I can’t trust these doctors even to continue the cure”, Rama says.

The Prosecution adds that the technical malfunctions are due to the flux of patients from Albania and Kosovo, and because there is no maintenance agreement with the production company. The appliance has been repaired by foreign specialists and the Biomedical Department.
