Parliamentary extraordinary session

29/05/2013 00:00

Although the Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli has already summoned
the Parliament in an extraordinary session for this Thursday at 10:00,
it is still unclear if the session will be held or how.

Top Channel contacted with the Parliament and the Speaker’s office confirmed that the Parliament summoning remains in act, with the agenda demanded by the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha.

The agenda includes the three integration laws, the Civil Employee law, the draft-law for the Supreme Court and the Parliamentary Reforms. Together with them the Prime Minister has included the Fiscal Amnesty, which also creates a mystery for the lawmakers, since this draft has not passed through the Parliamentary commissions.

The Parliament says that the meeting of the Conference of Chairmen for deciding the daily agenda will not be held before this session, adding that the Prime Minister used this occasion to summon the Parliament in an extraordinary session for issues of special importance and with an agenda decided by him.

The Parliament also confirmed that the Commission of Laws will not be held, since the Parliament considers the three integration laws already discussed. This official Parliament stance rejects the opposition’s request to discuss the drafts and agree on them at the Commission of Laws before the voting session.

These disagreements make it clear how the session will go on this Thursday and what results will it have. Contacted by phone, Parliament Members from both camps also had no idea if they would go in tomorrow’s session and what would happen if the Parliament would gather, adding that they are waiting for confirmation from their respective leaders on this matter.
