Today’s Parliamentary session is characterized of strong debates between
the biggest parties, since they have to decide if they will remove or
not the Central Election Commission member chosen by the Socialist
Movement of Integration, now that the latter has changed sides and
joined the opposition.
MP Eduart Paloka read the report of the Commission of Laws regarding the request made by DP to replace the SMI member, Ilirjan Muho, with one representative from the Republican Party, part of the ruling coalition.
Socialist MP, Damian Gjiknuri, declared that this movement is unacceptable on the verge of elections.
“With a government led by Berisha we are having other legal absurdities. This is a legal violation with a political perversion. We are putting in danger the free and fair elections, and DP is creating a dangerous precedent. This is what will happen in the future with the independent institutions”, Gjiknuri declared.
He says that Berisha is responsible for the situation that has been created, when even Brussels and Washington have appealed him not to change the CEC a few weeks before the elections.
DP seems determined in this initiative, while proposing two new names to replace Myho in Parliament. The SP and SMI will vote against this initiative, which they have considered illegal and anti-constitutional.
The three former Socialist MPs, Kastriot Islami, Gjovalin Kadeli and Asllan Dogjani, are expected to join their votes with the ruling majority.
CEC approves some voting centres
While the Parliament debates in a plenary session, CEC approved some voting centres that will be established in private premises.
From the 107 centres proposed by the leaders of the local units, CEC approved 86 of them through consensus. For 21 others that will be established in private premises, CEC decided to make further verifications. Another point that was approved is the draft-decision for the registration of the Committee that will organize the work for the candidate proposed by the electors in Tirana, Aziz Jata.
