After Bujar Nishani and Bamir Topi, other former Presidents, Alfred Moisiu, Rexhep Mejdani and Sali Berisha responded to the appeal of President Meta regarding the maritime border issue with Greece.

No official publication was made about these meetings, but the Presidency says the consultations are necessary.

The Albanian Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs asked the President for plenipotentiary authorization for negotiating with Greece.

One of the reasons that the agreement of 2009 was rejected by the Constitutional Court was exactly because the then government had not received the plenipotentiary authorization.

Minister Bushati was criticized by the President for not requesting this, but the Ministry argues that the negotiations so far have been just discussions and that they have not worked with the mapping.

This means that the talks with Greece have now entered in this phase, right after the President will grant the plenipotentiary authorization.
