Different from what was discussed in the recent meeting of the High
Council of Justice, for making easier criteria for whoever wants to run
to become judges or prosecutors, the Magistrate School Director, Marjana
Semini, had a completely different opinion on this matter.
In an interview for Top Channel, Mrs.Semini declared that the strong criteria show that this school has quality. However, referring to the justice students’ petition, who complain of discrimination, Semini declared that the Leading Council of the School has appointed a meeting in which they will also discuss this petition, and every initiative will be analyzed very carefully.
She said that now that Albania is trying to enter the European Union, lowering standards is not the right move, but on the contrary, there should be more quality since European schools have stricter criteria.
The Minister of Justice proposed the High Council of Justice members to review the admission conditions in the Magistrate School, since law students see them as very strict.
“The decision has not arrived yet officially, but we have been notified that the admission number will be eight, with three or four prosecutors. The current number is nine. We don’t have prosecutors in the first year for this academic year, so that the number for the next year will be 11 or 12, bigger than the number that we have in the first year. We can say that the school’s number is between 10 or 20. Only in the first year we had 24 candidates”, Semini declared.
She opposed the idea of closing the school during 2014, saying that this school is planned so that it can be active in training the given quotas for judges and prosecutors.
