The old Iliaz Bey Mirahori Mosque in Korce, built in 1496, has large
historic, cultural, religious and architectural values. After 15 years
without any maintenance, it might finally be restored by specialized
Turkish experts.
The Turkish Agency for Coordination and Development, TIKA, as the main partner of the Ministry of Culture, will enable the funds for this project. The implementation of this project that aims to restore the values of this mosque is expected to start very soon.
The Iliaz Bey Mirahori Mosque is a culture monument of the first category. It was built by Iliaz Hoxha, also known as Bey Mirahori, one of the first Albanian yenichers, scholar and personal teacher of Sultan Bayazid II in the Ottoman Empire.
Hoxha was married to the daughter of Mehmet II, and was leader of the Korca Sanjak, where he built the first mosque.
