After today’s protest in Tirana, the government reacted through the
Minister of Transports, Edmond Haxhinasto, saying that the requests are
unjust, since the government has already given its alternatives for
resolving this situation.
“They don’t have licenses for inter-urban transportation. The question is either we will implement the law or not. If the owners of the 8+1 vans want to continue their activity, they need to apply for licenses and stay in stations that have been defined by law. But they want to keep the advantages of being a taxi, and also the advantages for inter-urban transportation. We cannot go on like that”, Haxhinasto declared.
As for the presence of the Democratic Party Parliament Members in the protest, Haxhinasto declared that they are supporting illegality and are trying to turn this case into a political one.
“Parliament Members are there to make laws, to implement the law, and they should be the first ones to do it. If they think that the law is unjust, they should bring the respective amends in Parliament. The opposition Parliament Members cannot try to protect their close interests by supporting illegality. The encouraging of illegality is unacceptable in democracy, and this is not what citizens expect from them”, Haxhinasto declared.
