Former Ambassador: Spain must recognize Kosovo

The former Spanish ambassador to the United States, Jorge Dezcallar,
appealed his country to change the stance to Kosovo’s independence and
get closer to the new reality.

According to KTV, Dezcallar declared that he is pleased with the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, adding that this is very good news for Balkan.

“This is an agreement that obliges countries that have not recognized Kosovo, as ours, to change opinion on this matter. It is not worth it being more catholic than the Pope, when point 14 if the new agreements says that none of the countries will block each other in the European Union path”, Dezcallar declared.

The diplomat also spoke about the concerns of Madrid regarding the precedent of Kosovo’s independence, reiterating that: “We should not be afraid of this. Kosovo has nothing similar to our country”.

Earlier the month, the Spanish Prime Minister declared that his country has no intention to recognize Kosovo, regardless the agreement with Serbia.

“We have held a position for years, and it will not change. We will not recognize the independence of Kosovo, because Spain does not believe in unilateral declarations of independence”, declared Mariano Rajoy.

The Spanish Prime Minister, however, insinuated that Madrid will be constructive in Kosovo’s European Union path.

“Logically, we will support everything that goes in favor of the welfare of the residents of Kosovo, but we will not recognize its independence, although we respect other opinions”, Rajoy declared.
