In an interview for Euractive, the Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir
Bushati, said that the political crisis in Albania is artificial.
“You refer to the boycott of the opposition, but this is not something new in Balkan, maybe even in the Mediterranean. Last July we voted the constitutional amends unanimously, which will allow the implementation of the Judiciary Reform. We decided a condition of equality, so that the most important institutions of this reform have political equality”, Bushati explained, and reminded that the voting of the Judiciary Reform is a key condition for the EU accession negotiations.
“Now that everything is up to the Parliament, we have boycott from the opposition. Now we have only two options, continue the implementation together with the opposition, as agreed, so that we can push forward Albania’s EU integration agenda, or we can play the opposition’s game. I think we will chose the first option and make sure that the Judiciary Reform is implemented, which has earned the citizens’ trust”, he added.
Bushati said that the June 18th elections will be held under normal conditions. He also mentioned the assistance of the OSCE-ODIHR mission.
“There are some constitutional deadlines for the elections which have been respected always. It is not up to external forces to make us stay in government longer. It is paradoxal that the opposition didn’t demand early elections before, as it happens in every country of the world. They want to postpone the elections now that we are close to them”, Bushati said.
The Albanian Foreign Minister spoke about Macedonia. He reiterated that there is no “Tirana Platform”. “It is simply a document drafted by four Albanian political parties represented at the Parliament of Macedonia, and this draft had support from Albania”, the Minister added.
