“Division between the army and politics”

According to the Socialist Party Parliament Member, this is a very serious problem. The position of General Gjunkshi, proved by the correspondence made public by Top Channel, is seen by Erion Brace as a clash between the military and those who take political decisions.

“We are facing a strong division in the leadership of the Armed Forces, and to a level that reflects the decision making of these important institutions who lead the Armed Forces. We have a strong division between the political leaders and the military leaders. We have a strong division between the Minister of Defense and the Head of Staff, and an even bigger division between the Albanian President and the Chief of Staff. This should concern everyone, especially when Albania and the Armed forces are part of the NATO”, Brace declared.

According to Brace, in any other country there would have been a stronger reaction, since this is not an isolated case.

“We had a strong division for the Gerdec tragedy between the army and the political leaders. The Chief of Staff was not taken in consideration by anyone, but he was obliged to find another door to complain about the decision making that produced the dramatic tragedy with many victims in Gerdec”, Brace declared.

Braçe reminds another important fact of this kind.

“There was a similar case investigated by us in Parliament, as opposition Parliament Members. It was the sport club Partizani case, that proved another division in the decision making.

If you refer to the documents of that time, you can clearly note that the military level of the Armed Forces was against the decision taken by the Ministry of Defense in that time, which resulted into a big corruptive affair, with favors to the family in power”, Brace declared.

According to Erjon Brace, there are still suspicions that there are bigger interests for that building, in which the President is directly involved. Although seven days have passed since these accusations were launched, the president is still silent.

“If it is proved that there are other interests in that building, businesses with the Tirana Urban Plan, allow me to say that the investigation should be wider, for conflict of interest and corruption of high levels, involving the President, the Prime Minister, the government, the Ministry of Defense and the Municipality of Tirana”, Brace declared.
