Deville, who helped draft the Vetting Law, invites Albanians to denounce corrupted officials

Back in Albania as trainer for human right observers who will monitor
the implementation of the Vetting Law, Rainer Deville, who gave a huge
contribution for the drafting of the Vetting Law, said that he trusts
that it will have success. “Otherwise, the cost will be very high”, he
said.

“We are all aware that there are some people interested to boycott, delay and damage the vetting law even more. Someone might ask if we can guarantee that the vetting law will work. It is not guaranteed, because it depends on political will, on the public and other involved actors. If it doesn’t work, the EU has the accession matter on their hands, and it will be postponed”, Rainer Deville declared.

Deville described the popular perception in a direct manner: “Not everyone is corrupted. There are honest judges and prosecutors who have been working for the past 20 years. They don’t have high-end cars and don’t spend their holidays in Singapore, but Vlore. You are the guardians of all these honest people”, Deville declared.

Deville asked the public to inform about the wealth of corrupted people, not just for punishment, but also for returning assets made with corruption. But the vetting law must also respect human rights.
