The EU concluded the procedures for the new Head of the EU delegation in
Tirana. The Croatian diplomat, Romana Vlahutin, current adviser of
President Ivo Josipovic, will start her new work on October 1st in
Albania.

Although the office of Catherine Ashton did not confirm it, with the argument that they are waiting for the consent of the receiving country, diplomatic sources said for Top Channel was selected by the EU High Representative among three candidates that were chosen by cast lots this summer.

Many candidates ran for this post from 28 member countries, including Bernd Borchardt, current head of the EU mission in Kosovo, EULEX and the former Chief of the Unit for Albania, Dirk Lange, currently Chief of the Unit for Montenegro at the General Enlargement Directory at the European Commission.

The new ambassador has been part of the OSCE mission in Kosovo, and has been valued for her knowledge about the region and about her experience in diplomacy.

She will replace the Italian Ettore Sequ, who left his post as Ambassador of the EU in Tirana to work for the cabinet of the Italian Foreign Minister, Federica Mogherini, who has been appointed as High Representative of the EU and Vice President of the European Commission.

Same sources say that after November 1st, Sequi will pass to the cabinet of the new Chief of EU Diplomacy.
