Overweight and obesity have turned into a risk factor for the health of
Albanians. This international pandemics has affected the Albanian
children too, who are now oriented to conserved food and the ones with
too many hormones.
Children are prone to consume fast-food, chocolates and other sweets without any control, abandoning fruits and vegetables.
A study made by the World Health Organization and the Albanian Public Health Institution reached the conclusion that 21.6% of children are overweight and obese.
“In a national level, 21.6% of children are overweight and 7.7% of them are obese, affecting more boys than girls”, declared Jolanda Hyska, a Public Health specialist.
Overweight and obesity is more visible in children who live in urban areas, where their parents neglect the food control because of not having enough time. Doctors recommend that breakfast should never be avoided and it should always include proteins, milk, eggs and fruits.
On the other hand, they also say that schools should have special programs for healthy students. An obese child will remain as such even when he will grow up, and his organism will create pathologies that will reduce the quality of life and longevity.
