The Central Election Commission decided two days ago that the electoral
campaign on TV and radio operator should be transmitted based on the
materials edited and given by the political parties.
This decision obliges media operators to transmit videos that have been edited by the political forces.
Besides making a regress in the media independence, this decision damages the public’s right to get pluralist information from the media, and receive only an image that has been unified by the political parties, with all the opportunities open to receive a fake material. But more than that, the Central Election Commission has overruled an Electoral College decision that allowed media operators to not broadcast pre-edited materials, rejecting the Central Election Commission’s decision of that time, which imposed the broadcasting of pre-edited materials. This battle was won by the media operators in the last campaign, with Top Channel being one of the operators that opposed this phenomenon and stood to the end with this battle.
The leader of the “Journalists’ Union”, and some of the mostly renowned university professors in our country, this decision is absurd and a frightening regress in the media independence. “The reaction should be immediate and solidary from all media outlets”, declared Alexander Cipa, Mark Marku and Iris Luarasi.
