Another Central Election Commission member, Jani Jani, proposed by the
United for Human Rights Party and voted by the Parliament, announced
that his position at the CEC is frozen, since the majority has clearly
damaged the activity of CEC.
“Unfortunately, based on the recent events, the majority has taken some steps that clearly damage the independence of this institution, by infringing the law. I value the resignation act of moy colleagues as a right solution for their convinction”.
Jani says that due to the situations that have been created, and while waiting for a real visible reflection from the Albanian politics to give up from damaging the independence of this institution, and in sign of solidarity for his colleagues, he announced to freeze his formal activity at CEC.
After the resignation of Denar Biba as vice chairman of the CEC, and Albana Shtylla, a member proposed by the Socialist Party, Jan Jani’s action completely paralyzes the highest election institution in our country.
Debates in Parliament
The key word on Today’s Parliament’s discussion were the recent developments at the Central Election Commission, although the schedule foresaw discussions about the European driving licenses.
Astrit Patozi, head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, accused the SP leader, Edi Rama, of trying to block the elections.
“There’s no more dilemma that Edi Rama is trying to ruin these elections. By blocking the CEC, Rama is avoiding his own constitutional obligations. Whatever his decisions are, the country’s laws guarantee a normal electoral procedure. The elections will be held free and fair, as regards this majority, because that is our goal”, Patozi declared.
The Parliamentary Speaker interrupted the speech of the Socialist MP, Blendi Klosi, which was considered by the SP Group Leader as a clear offence against the opposition MPs.
Speaker Topalli interrupted Klosi’s speech and continued his sentence “A few days before the Albanian citizens will finally be free from Berisha’s…”, with her words “…and you (the opposition) will be screwed”.
“What European Parliament has a Speaker that tells these words to the opposdition. Where are we here? What is going on in this country? Two months before the elections, and the main electoral institution is on a crisis. How comes that you are not ashamed before this country, and send me a request to refill the CEC vacancies within 48 hours? What vacancies? Those of the institution that you ruined, that you politicized with your actions?”, Ruci declared.
Nasip Naco, vice Parliament Speaker proposed by the Socialist Movement for Integration, submitted his resignation letter today.
