For opening the accession negotiations, Albania will not only be asked to continue the current pace of reforms, but also to close the new route of illegal immigration towards the European block.
The conditions are clear, according to Deutsche Welle: EU wants clear results with the reforms until June 2019, an agreement with Greece and closing doors to illegal immigration.
The President of the European Union, Donald Tusk, and the Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, met in Brussels with Prime Minister Rama this week to discuss how they can start implementing these conditions the soonest possible.
Albania has been praised for their contribution with the refugees from Middle East and Northern Africa, but Brussels’ condition is to stop the new immigration itinerary towards the EU.
