In a meeting with journalists, the US State Department official, Deputy
Assistant Secretary Hoyt Brian Yee, declared that Democratic Party’s
self-exclusion from elections will be damaging for the country.
“The USA supported the McAllister package and there should have been an agreement on that”, Yee said.
For the first time, Yee said that USA guarantees that Prime Minister Rama has no purpose to manipulate the elections, and they believe the electoral standards.
“The USA is ready to support parties with the elections, but they will be considered legal even without the opposition, including the judiciary reform”, Yee said.
He was optimistic for a quick solution, saying there’s no more time.
“We hope that there will be a solution and the parties will dialogue, since there is no more time left”, he declared.
The Deputy Secretary of State was asked about the Russian influence in the region, and said that it is assisted by the lack of the rule of law and institutions in the region.
