Xhafaj’s proposition for Regional Center is accepted

The proposition of the Albanian Interior Minister, Fatmir Xhafaj, to establish a Regional Center of Police Cooperation, was approved at the concluding conference of the IPA 2013 project.

The Conference was held in Trieste, with the topic: “Fight Against Organized Crime, International Cooperation for Criminal Justice in Western Balkan”.

“Thanks to cooperation between our countries, we have guaranteed higher security to our citizens. That’s why, together, we must give a new impulse to the fight against crime and we should implement new interaction models between our law enforcing and judiciary institutions”, Xhafaj declared in front of Western Balkan Ministers.

Police Chiefs, Ambassadors and Interior MInisters of Western Balkan countries attended these meetings, in which Xhafaj proposed some concrete initiatives for a better regional cooperation, in partnership with EU countries.

These propositions include:

Establishing a Regional Center for Police Cooperation, to better coordinate information exchange in the fight against organized crime, drug traffic and illegal migration.
Creating a joint Data-Base that would help for better information exchange.
Establishing joint police groups against criminal elements.

The Interior Minister thanked the Italian government for the technical assistance on the IPA 2013 project and expressed Albania’s will for full cooperation.
