World champions raise flag on Independence Day

The 102nd anniversary of independence has gathered in Vlore the highest
figures of the Albanian government, local citizens and many Albanians
coming from Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and other places with ethnic
Albanians.

The President, the Prime Minister, the Parliament Speaker, Ministers and the Mayor of Vlore were present in this ceremony for commemorating the day when the Albanian flag was raised in Vlore by Ismal Qemali and the other delegates from every city of Albania, declaring this way the independence of our country.

Different from other years, the flag was raised by the two weightlifting world champions, Romela Begaj and Daniel Godelli, who honored our flag a few weeks ago by winning the world championship.

Same as one year ago, the organizers played only the Albanian anthem and no politicians held any speech in the Flag’s Square.

The homage concluded this ceremony on the Flag’s Square, while the celebrations continued.

A big red-and-black flag was placed on the ferry Vlore-Brindisi, commemorating this honored day.
