Minister of the Interior Taulant Balla has praised the work of the firefighting forces of the municipalities of the Vlora District and the departments of the Armed Forces for bringing the fires in Porto Palermo area under control.
Through a post on social networks, Balla states that the situation is now on the way to normalization and that the work is continuing to eliminate all the hearths that present a risk of rekindling.
“Thanks to the firefighting forces of the municipalities of Vlorë District and the departments of the Armed Forces the situation in the Porto Palermo area is on the way to normalization after worsening due to the strong wind and residents were evacuated from the homes and businesses in the area. At this moment, the situation and the work is continuing to eliminate all the foci, which present a risk of rekindling the fires”, writes Balla.
A large-scale fire engulfed last night and continues to be active in the coastal hills in the area of Vlora Himara in southern Albania. The fire has endangered the homes while about 70 hectares of pastures have burned.
Meanwhile, the Himara firefighters are on the ground, assisted by a helicopter and 40 soldiers of the Armed Forces who came to help today.
